Big Lots Payment Methods

The front of a Big Lots store.

Big Lots is a big-box discount store that stocks a wide variety of products. Its inventory includes toys, games, personal care products, cosmetics, and small batteries. It also sells groceries such as cereal, candy, and soda. And it also sells sofas and vacuum cleaners. In short, this is a store that you might want to visit if you’re looking for something that might not be available at other stores, or if you don’t want to make multiple trips to pick up everything you need. This is also one of the advantages of other big-box discount stores.

While Big Lots is a discount store and many of its products are affordable, you might still need additional financing to buy big-ticket items such as appliances and furniture. Because Big Lots sells groceries, furniture, and many other products, it also accepts more forms of payment than other retailers. However, some payment options can only be used to purchase specific products. Here are the payment methods you can use at Big Lots.

Does Big Lots Accept Major Credit Cards?

Big Lots accepts American Express, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover cards. It accepts both debit and credit cards and it also accepts cash and checks.

Does Big Lots Accept Mobile Payment Methods?

Big Lots accepts Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and other contactless payment methods for in-store purchases. This was confirmed by the big-box store’s window sticker.

Additionally, Big Lots accepts PayPal and Venmo for in-store purchases and this was also confirmed by the store’s front window sticker. This is noteworthy because many stores accept these payment options online but it’s less common for stores to accept them for in-store purchases.

Big Lots also has an online store that has accepted Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal since 2021. It doesn’t have any mobile apps, though.

Does Big Lots Accept EBT?

Big Lots accepts EBT for in-store purchases of qualifying products, so you can use this form of payment to buy food there but you can’t use it to buy other products such as furniture. Some of its stores might not accept this payment option, though.

Big Lots doesn’t accept EBT for online purchases. It hasn’t signed up for the SNAP online purchasing program. If you’re looking for an alternative, Food 4 Less and Walmart do participate in this program.

Does Big Lots Accept Buy Now, Pay Later?

Big Lots accepts the BNPL apps Zip, Klarna, and Sezzle but doesn’t accept Afterpay or Affirm. It also accepts PayPal for both in-store and online purchases so you can use PayPal’s BNPL service there as well.

Does Big Lots Offer Its Own Payment Methods?

Big Lots sells branded gift cards and also provides other financing options including a store credit card and a lease-to-own option. While it’s a discount store, it sells some costlier products such as furniture that you might still need to finance.

Big Lots supports split payments so you can use a gift card and a credit card together to make an in-store purchase. This allows you to use up the full balance of a gift card.
