Chipotle Payment Methods

A Chipotle restaurant.

Chipotle is a Mexican restaurant with a cafeteria-style format. After you select an entree such as a burrito, bowl, or taco there, you can pick the specific ingredients you want to add to your meal. These ingredients are stored in heated metal trays and they include beans, rice, salsa, meat, and a tofu-based vegan protein called Sofritas. This restaurant also has corn salsa and pork and some of its competitors don’t offer either option.

Because of its format, Chipotle prepares food faster than other Mexican fast-casual restaurants. And like other fast-casual restaurants, it also uses higher-quality ingredients than fast-food restaurants. So this restaurant has advantages over its competitors in both speed and food quality as well as customization options. These factors make this restaurant very popular, but it’s efficient enough that even if there’s a long line when you arrive it typically won’t take very long to prepare your meal. Here are the payment methods you can use at Chipotle.

Does Chipotle Accept Major Credit Cards?

Chipotle accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover cards. It accepts debit cards and debit cards and it also accepts cash. Its restaurants carry limited cash reserves, though, and if a restaurant doesn’t have small bills or coins available you might need to provide exact change for your order.

You can use $50 and $100 bills to pay for your order at Chipotle but again its restaurants don’t always have lots of cash available and may not be able to provide change for a large bill. But if you’re ordering $100 worth of food there, you can use a $100 bill to pay for it.

Chipotle also has partnerships with third-party delivery services that can accept cash on delivery as a payment method so you can use these services to pay cash for an online order from this restaurant.

Does Chipotle Accept Mobile Payment Methods?

Chipotle accepts Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and other contactless payment methods for orders at its restaurants. I confirmed this by looking up the profiles of its restaurants in my area on Apple Maps. Chipotle doesn’t accept PayPal for either in-store or online purchases, though.

Chipotle also has rewards apps for both the iPhone and Android phones. You can use these apps to make delivery orders as well as pickup orders.

Does Chipotle Accept International Payment Methods?

Chipotle accepts Discover cards, so it’s likely that it can also accept JCB and UnionPay cards by processing them through the Discover network. It can use the same process to accept RuPay global cards as well. This could be important for tourists or international travelers who are looking for a restaurant that serves vegetarian meals.

Does Chipotle Accept EBT?

Chipotle doesn’t accept EBT at its Southern California restaurants. I checked the lists of Restaurant Meals program participants in Los Angeles, Ventura, San Diego, San Bernardino, and Orange counties and I didn’t see this restaurant on those lists. Restaurants need to sign up for this program to accept EBT as a payment method.

This isn’t unusual because Chipotle is a fast-casual restaurant and this type of restaurant typically doesn’t accept EBT. If you’re looking for an alternative, quick-serve restaurants such as Del Taco and El Pollo Loco accept EBT at many of their Southern California locations.

Does Chipotle Have Its Own Payment Methods?

Chipotle sells branded gift cards. This restaurant is very popular, so you can also buy its gift cards at independently operated big-box stores.

Chipotle doesn’t accept split payments for online orders, so if you’re ordering online your gift card must have a balance that covers the entire order. You can split payments if you order at a restaurant, though.

What’s Another Useful Fact About Chipotle?

Chipotle has been testing the demand for cauliflower rice by introducing it as a limited-time menu item at some of its restaurants. Cauliflower rice has fewer carbohydrates than white rice or brown rice so diners on keto diets often look for it at restaurants. Rubio’s and El Pollo Loco have developed products for keto diets as well.
